Home regular season finale Saturday

Simpson College visits Levick Arena in the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center Saturday, Feb. 12, for Senior Recognition Day, sponsored by Lincoln Savings Bank. Tipoff times are 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. Simpson captured both ends of the first season series meeting, winning the women’s game 64-55 and the men’s game 84-71 in Indianola Jan. 19.

KNIGHTS NOTES: Women – Coach Bob Amsberry’s team becomes the school’s first 20-game winner since 2001-02 with a win in any of its remaining games. The last time out, the Knights (19-3, 10-3 IIAC) upended Buena Vista 83-73 Feb. 5. Senior point guard Samantha Harrington (Nashua) sparked the 10th conference win with 21 points, three assists and three steals. She was also eight-of-eight at the charity stripe. Harrington’s current double-figure scoring streak rose to five successive games. She’s hit multiple three-pointers in four straight contests. Junior forward Terri Dirks (Monticello), finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds, posted her third double-figure game of the season. Behind nine rebounds, junior forward Emily Timmermans (Vinton) has been at-or-above six rebounds in seven of her last eight appearances. … Harrington and senior center Katie Zittergruen (Van Horne) have each reached 200-or-more points this season, with sophomore forward Maddie Sadecky (Iowa City) and junior guard Stephanie Reiter (LaPorte City) within striking distance. Sadecky has 166, and Reiter has 168.

Men – Wartburg (8-13, 3-10 IIAC) has won two of its last three.  The play of junior forwards Cole Danielson (Marshalltown), Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) and Kirk Sidey (Greenfield) has keyed the run. Danielson, averaging 17.6 points per game, has a run of 13 consecutive double-figure scoring games. He’s been at-or-above 20 points six times in the span. Sathoff has been just as impressive, reaching double figures in 10 straight games, In that stretch, he’s had five double-doubles. Sidey’s been in double figures three times in the last five contests and has dished out three-or-more assists in each game and pulled down four-or-more rebounds four times. … Danielson’s classroom success has also been noted. He was named second team academic all-district VII by CoSida (Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America) and Capital One Feb. 3. … In its last game, the Orange and Black edged Buena Vista 65-62 Feb. 5. Highlighting the program’s 75th anniversary celebration, Wartburg held as large as a 15-point lead.

ROAD TRIP: Wartburg ends its regular season with doubleheaders at the University of Dubuque Wednesday, Feb. 16, and Loras Saturday, Feb. 19.
