Thomas Perkins had 10 points Wednesday
Box Score
WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg men’s basketball team outscored Iowa Conference opponent, Dubuque, 40-37 in the second half, but it wasn’t quite enough as it surrendered 71-66.

Senior Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) led all scorers with his 25 points and sophomore Thomas Perkins (Sun Valley, Nev.) contributed 10 on the night.

Senior Darian Patterson (West Chester) had a team-best seven rebounds.

The Spartans had three players finish in double digits as Lee Piccinelli recorded 18, Mitch Michaelis has 15 and Chris Frazier had 13.

Dubuque was ahead 34-26 at the break and the Knights started the second frame on a 5-2 run over the first three minutes.

The Spartans increased their margin to as many as 11 points (58-47) with 7:05 to go.

The Orange and Black whittled the lead to three with 4:52 remaining and knotted the score at 66 all with 1:21 left.

Dubuque made one of two free throw attempts with 47 seconds to go to give Wartburg possession.

The Knights were called for a turnover with 0:16 on the clock so they quickly fouled to attempt one last play after the Spartan’s two free throws.

The Orange and Black recorded their sixteenth offensive rebound of the game with 0:05 to go, but were unfortunately, unable to make their last-second three-point attempt.

Similar to the women’s squad, Wartburg won the battle of the glass (43-30).

The Knights return to the hardwood Saturday against Loras at 4 p.m.
