WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter alone in its 24-10 comeback win over Luther College Saturday.
With the win, the Knights move to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Iowa Conference play while the Norse fall to 0-6 on the year and 0-3 in IIAC games.
Luther was the first team on the scoreboard as Seth Streeter made a 22-yard field goal with 9:02 remaining in the first quarter.
The Norse increased the margin to 10 as Adam Bohr caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from Kody Moore on their ensuing drive.
The Orange and Black capitalized on a Luther turnover on its first drive of the second quarter as freshman Frank Loconti (Lombard, Ill.) made a 27-yard field goal to bring the score to 10-3 with 12:34 to play in the frame.
Luther attempted to add three more points with its 43-yard field goal on its following drive, but the kick was short.
Wartburg knotted the score at 10 all on freshman Logan Schrader's (Kildeer, Ill.) eight-yard pass to senior Curt Hruska (New Hampton) with 1:47 left in the first half.
The rest of the game belonged to the Knights as they hung 14 unanswered points in the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) punched one in from five-yards out to help the Orange and Black regain the lead at 17-10 just under three minutes into the fourth quarter.
Schrader would take it himself for 34-yards on Wartburg's ensuing drive to make the score 24-10.
Senior Mark Lueschow (Cresco) helped seal the win with his interception with 0:20 left in the game.
Domeyer recorded his first 100-yard game of his collegiate career as he had 21 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown.
Schrader finished the day 11-23 for 132 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Hruska led the receivers with 46 yards on three catches and one touchdown.
Senior Jared Wauters (Elberon) led the defense with his nine total tackles (seven solo, four assist) and also had 1.5 tackles for a loss of two yards.
As a team, the Knights held the advantages in total rushing yards (177-83), total offensive yards (322-316) and sacks (5-3).
The Orange and Black return to the field next Saturday against Dubuque at 1:30 p.m.
