Football Hosts Dubuque in Annual Homecoming Game

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team (3-2 overall, 2-1 IIAC) hosts Dubuque (2-4, 1-2) Saturday at 1:30 p.m.for the annual Homecoming game.

A Look Back at Last Week:
­­Wartburg:

The Knights scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter alone in their 24-10 comeback win over Luther College last Saturday.

The Orange and Black capitalized on a Luther turnover on their first drive of the second quarter. Freshman Frank Loconti’s (Lombard, Ill.) 27-yard field goal made it 10-3 at 12:34 before halftime.

Wartburg knotted the score at 10 on freshman quarterback Logan Schrader's (Kildeer, Ill.) eight-yard pass to senior receiver Curt Hruska (New Hampton) with 1:47 left in the half.

The rest of the game belonged to the Knights who hung 14 unanswered points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) punched one in from five-yards out to help the Orange and Black regain the lead, 17-10, just under three minutes into the fourth quarter.

Schrader took it himself for 34-yards on Wartburg's ensuing drive to make it 24-10.

Senior Mark Lueschow (Cresco) helped seal the win with his interception with 0:20 left.

Domeyer recorded his first collegiate 100-yard game with 21 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown.

Schrader finished 11-23 for 132 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Hruska led the receivers with 46 yards on three catches and one touchdown.

Senior Jason Shupp (Cedar Rapids) led the defense with nine total tackles (five solo, eight assist) and also had 2.5 tackles for a loss of four yards.

As a team, the Knights led in total rushing yards (177-83), total offensive yards (322-316) and sacks (5-3).

Dubuque:
The Spartans fell, 41-38, to Coe in double overtime last week.

The score was tied, 14-14, at halftime. Dubuque took a 21-20 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Kohawks outscored the Spartans 8-7 in the fourth quarter for a 28-28 tie in regulation.

Both teams tallied seven points in the first overtime. Dubuque had the ball first in the second session and settled for a 42-yard field goal to lead 38-35.

The Kohawks took advantage of their final possession to win on a 13-yard touchdown pass.

A Look at the Teams:
Wartburg:

Senior Reese Thompson (Van Horne) leads the team with 424 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. He has the most rushing attempts (587) of any player since the 2001 season and needs three rushing touchdowns to take the top spot from Brad Hodapp in that time span.

Three teammates join Thompson in triple digits rushing: senior Connor Dahlstrom (Eldridge) 193; freshmen Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) 182, and Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) at 143.

Schrader has thrown for 919 yards and is 76-123 with six touchdown passes and four interceptions.

Three receivers have more than 200 receiving yards: senior Curt Hruska (New Hampton), 273, sophomore Donald Miller (Maywood, Ill.), 225; and senior DJ Looft (Armstrong), 209.

Junior Ryan Billings (Sterling, Ill.) leads the defense with his 33.5 total tackles, 23 solo and 21 assists. He also has a team-best 9.5 tackles for a loss of 31 yards.

Senior Garrett McGrane (Fairbank) is fifth in total tackles and second in solo tackles among all players since the 2001 season. He also needs one more blocked kick to take top spot in that category in that time span.

Dubuque:
Kyle Acker leads the team with 666 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.

Wyatt Hanus has thrown for 1,890 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is 15-241 with four interceptions.

Sean Anderson leads all receivers with 507 yards.

Trevor Runkle leads all defenders with 59 total tackles, 23 solo and 36 assists.
