Knights Draw Double Overtime Tie with Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's soccer team (3-5-2 overall, 0-1-1 IIAC) drew a 2-2 double overtime tie against Iowa Conference opponent, Simpson (8-4-1, 1-0-1) Thursday night.

Jeremy Reinert put the Storm on the board as he headed a corner kick into the back of the net at 23:44.

This remained the score through halftime until Simpson extended its margin at 69:18 with a goal from Mitchell White.

Freshman Zubeen Azari (Spirit Lake) sliced the margin in half just four seconds later as he scored from five-yards out at 69:22. Sophomore Dan Nadeau (White Bear Lake, Minn.) was credited with the assist

Freshman Chris Nothnick (Overland Park, Kan.) knotted the score at 2-2 with his goal at 79:47 as he connected on a pass from Azari.

Neither team was able to score in the last ten minutes in regulation to send the game into overtime.

The Storm held a narrow one-shot advantage in both extra sessions (6-5), but the game ended in a tie.

The Orange and Black return to the field Saturday when they host Iowa Conference opponent, Coe, at 7 p.m.
