Football Travels to Play Central

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team (5-3 overall, 3-2 IIAC) travels to face conference opponent, Central (4-4, 3-2) Saturday at 1 p.m.

Last Week:
Wartburg:

Wartburg fell 35-7 to No. 19 Coe last Saturday.

The Kohawks were the first team on the scoreboard on their second drive of the game on a 22-yard pass from Jared McNutt to Jared Kuehner with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter.

The Knights answered back to knot the score at 7-7 as freshman Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) punched one in from one-yard out with 11:30 left in the first half.

Coe regained the lead later in the second quarter on a eight-yard run by Brendan Leiran with 2:27 left in the half.

The Kohawks scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to seal the win.

Freshman signal caller Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) finished 15-26-1 for 148 yards through the air on the day while Domeyer finished with 65 yards on the ground.

Senior Curt Hruska (New Hampton) led the receivers with his six receptions for 67 yards.

Sophomore Spencer Capitani (Northwood) had a career day on defense as he finished with 10.5 total tackles, which included nine solo tackles.

Central:
The Dutch defeated Loras 27-10 last week.

Central outgained the Duhawks 404 yards to 208. The Duhawks had 130 yards rushing and just 78 through the air, completing six of 16 passes with three interceptions. Runningback Nate Carrier had a game-high 146 yards on 33 carries but Loras was hurt by two Dutch sacks.

Linebacker Mike Young had a game-high 11 tackles, including 1.5 for loss. Geneser had 10 stops with 1.5 for loss while free safety Jake Edelman, strong safety Jacob Tune and linebacker Seth Carson each had eight tackles. Edelman and freshman defensive back Bryan Mejia joined Geneser in making interceptions.

A Look at the Teams:
Wartburg:

Senior Reese Thompson (Van Horne) leads the Knights with 479 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He needs two more touchdowns to become the all-time leader since the 2001 season and already has the most career carries of any player since that season.

Thompson also ranks third of any player since 2001 with 2,442 rushing yards to date.

Schrader is 110-177-6 for 1,405 passing yards with nine touchdowns.

Hruska leads the receivers with 33 receptions for 397 yards and three touchdowns.

Billings leads the defense with 46 total tackles (30 solo, 32 assist) and 13.0 for a loss of 43 yards.

Central:
Josh Osborn leads the Dutch's ground attack with 517 yards for two touchdowns.

Quarterback Aaron Eiseler is 75-127-4 for 909 yards and five touchdown passes.

Ben Lechtenberg is the top receiver with 307 yards on 21 catches and two touchdowns.

Mike Young leads the defense with 62 tackles (28 solo, 34 assists).
