New School Records Set in Loss to Central

PELLA, Iowa-- Three new single-game school records were set in Wartburg's (5-4, 3-3 IIAC) 31-28 loss to Central (5-4, 4-2) Saturday.

Freshman Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) set a new program record with his 405 passing yards to break the old mark of 371 set by Reed Hoskins, interestingly against Central in 2001.

This also set a new single-game best for the team as well.

In the third quarter senior DJ Looft (Armstrong) caught a 85-yard pass from Shrader to set a new school record for longest pass play from scrimmage. The old record was 84 which has occurred twice: Don Smith from Mike Elijah against Buena Vista in 1993 and Chris Shannon from Brian Nelson against Loras in 1995.

Central led Wartburg 21-7 after the first quarter.

Freshman Cywettnie Brown's (Chicago, Ill.) 21-yard touchdown reception brought the Knights within seven at 21-14 with 8:51 to play in the second quarter.

The Dutch answered on their next possesion to make the score 28-14 in their favor at halftime.

The Orange and Black outscored Central 14-3 in the final two frames on Looft's aforementioned reception with 5:15 remaining in the game and senior Reese Thompson (Van Horne) scored his second touchdown of the day with just under two minutes to play.

Wartburg recovered the onside kick and its drive started at mid-field with 1:53 on the clock.

The Knights marched down the field but unfortunately had their go-ahead touchdown called off due to a penalty.

This made it fourth and two from the Central 12-yard line and the pass fell incomplete and Central took over on downs.

The Dutch took three consecutive knees to seal the win.

Shrader set a new career-best with his 405 yards and Looft also set a new mark with 148 receiving yards on the day and second 100+ yard game of his career.

The Orange and Black return to the gridiron next Saturday when they host Loras at 1 p.m.
