MOUNT VERNON, Iowa—The Wartburg College men’s basketball team (10-11 overall 4-8 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Cornell (3-17, 1-10) 52-39 Wednesday night at the Multi-Sport Center.
 
Senior Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) led the team with his 13 points. Classmate Darian Patterson (West Chester) finished with eight points and co-led the team with Kirk Sidey (Greenfield) as both pulled down nine rebounds.
 
The Knights took the 23-20 lead at halftime and began the second frame on a 14-8 run over the first five minutes to increase their lead to nine (37-28).
 
The Rams cut the margin to two with 8:35 remaining, but the Orange and black answered with a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to take the nine point lead once again.
 
Wartburg’s defense held Cornell to a .291 field goal percentage on the night, including .143 percent from three-point land.
 
The Knights are off from competition this weekend and return to action on the road next Wednesday against Dubuque at 8 p.m.
