WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men’s basketball team (11-13 overall, 5-10 IIAC) outscored Iowa Conference opponent, Coe (17-7, 11-4) 32-27 in the second half of Wednesday’s game, but was unable to overcome the first half margin as it surrendered a 67-55 loss.
The Knights shot over 50 percent (.583) in the second frame and held the team advantage from the free throw line on the game (.750-.727).
Senior Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) scored a team-best 18 points and seven rebounds.
Junior Brandon Flenor (Baltimore, Md.) joined him in double figures with 10 points.
The Kohawks took the 40-23 lead at halftime. The Orange and Black whittled the margin to nine with 10:23 remaining as sophomore Mitchell Murphy (Cresco) made a layup.
Coe increased the spread to 13 (57-44) with 7:49 to go, but Wartburg answered with a 8-2 run to cut the lead to six with 4:27 left.
The Kohawks ended the game on a 8-2 run to seal the win.
The Knights conclude their season Saturday on the road against Central at 4 p.m.
