Knights Upset #12 Warhawks, 3-2

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's soccer team (3-5-1 overall) upset No. 12 UW-Whitewater (4-3-1), 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

Similar to the women's game, the Knights jumped to an early 1-0 lead as freshman Zubeen Azari (Spirit Lake) connected on a pass from junior Bob Brown (Solon) just 1:35 into the game.

Senior Brandon Cook (Bondurant) scored his first goal of the day at 20:37 on a shot to the lower left corner.

The Orange and Black remained ahead 2-0 through halftime until Kody Mjelde netted a goal for the Warhawks at 62:40 to make the score 2-1.

Cook scored his second goal of the day on a pass from senior Kris Krohn (Cedar Rapids) at 76:11 to extend Wartburg's lead to 3-1.

UW-Whitewater was awarded a penalty kick at 78:55 and Logan Fye was successful on his attempt to make the score 3-2.

The Knights return to the field Thursday when they travel to face Simpson at 7 p.m.
