WAVERLY, Iowa-- A strong second-half effort by the No. 15 Wartburg men's soccer team sealed the 2-1 win over Bethel Sunday.
The Knights are now 11-2-2 on the year while the Royals fall to 4-9-0.
Bethel took the 1-0 lead at 17:17 as Tim Ness put his shot into the lower left corner of the net past a diving Wartburg goal keeper.
This remained the score through halftime until sophomore Zubeen Azari (Spirit Lake) netted his fifth goal of the year at 51:30. He connected on a pass from classmate Chris Nothnick (Overland Park, Kan.).
Freshman Paris Martins (Coralville) scored the game-winning goal at 52:37 on a pass from Azari. Martins beat the goalie, who came out of the net, dribbled around him and scored on the open net.
The Knights held the team advantage in shots, 18-10.
The Orange and Black return to action Saturday on the road against Dubuque at 3:30 p.m.
