Knights Upset #4 Duhawks, 2-1

Box Score
WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's soccer team (9-2-2 overall, 3-0-0 IIAC) not only upset No. 4- ranked Loras 2-1 Saturday, but also handed the Duhawks their first loss of the season (9-1-2, 2-1-0).

"This team has a lot of fight in them," said head coach Kirk Artist. "All 42 guys on this team contributed to the success thus far in the season and all 42 will continue to push us towards our goals. There is a strong belief and trust within this team that unifies us to achieve these type of wins. We have a long ways to go and we will have a target on our back from now on. I am very proud to be the coach of these 42 young men and I believe they are prepared for more success in the future."

Freshman Paris Martins (Coralville) connected on a pass from classmate Nick Brown (Solon) to put the Knights on the board first at 43:37.

The Orange and Black took the 1-0 lead into halftime before sophomore Chris Nothnick (Overland Park, Kan.) increased the margin to 2-0 at 46:31. Junior Dan Nadeau (White Bear Lake, Minn.) passed the ball back to Nothnick who put his shot into the lower left corner of the back of the net.

Loras scored its lone goal at 69:26 on a shot attempt that just sailed past Wartburg's diving goalie.

Tonight's upset marks the Knights' first win over a Top 5 ranked opponent since beating No. 3 Loras 2-1 in the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship on Nov. 7, 2009.

The Orange and Black return to competition Saturday when they travel to face Central at 3:30 p.m.
