WAVERLY, Iowa-- Three Knights, senior Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello), junior Clay Cook (West Branch) and freshman Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) all finished with 14 points and senior Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) joined them in double digits with 11 points Saturday.
Wartburg (8-7 overall, 2-2 IIAC) held off a Coe (9-6, 1-3) second-half rally to win 71-65.
The Orange and Black led 40-26 at halftime and were ahead 61-51 with 7:56 to play until the Kohawks cut the margin to single digits.
Coe pulled within three points, 68-65, with 1:26 to play.
After a Kohawk turnover, they quickly fouled to try to get the ball back. Senior Thomas Perkins (San Tan Valley, Nev.) made both of his free throws to give Wartburg the 70-65 lead with 0:19 remaining.
Coe attempted a trey that was unsuccessful, so it quickly fouled again. Cannon made his first of two free throws, but the Kohawks were not able to score on their last-second three-point attempt.
Wartburg takes to the road for two games next week and will travel to face Buena Vista Wednesday at 8 p.m.
