Men's Soccer Scores Nine Goals in Shutout Victory

The Wartburg men's soccer team improved to 8-2-2 overall and 3-0-0 in conference with a decisive 9-0 shutout win over conference opponent Central (3-9-0, 1-2-0).

The Knights got on the board in the sixth minute as freshman Jay Tegge (Naperville, Ill.) headed a ball to the feet of junior Zubeen Azari (Spirit Lake) who sent the ball to the left corner of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

The Knights would continue to pile on the goals and take a 7-0 lead at the half.

Freshman Patrick Paye (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) had two successive goals, Azari scored another goal, sophomore Paris Martins (Coralville), senior Dan Nadeau (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and senior Tyler Salzwedel (Middleton, Wis.) each had one goal.

In the second half, the Knights would add two more to make it 9-0 as sophomore Mogahid Fadi (Des Moines) and freshman Bryce Retzloff (Eau Claire, Wis.) both scored.

Senior Zach Smith (Cedar Rapids) had two assists, freshman Kimu Kasha (Cedar Rapids), Nadeau and freshman Tanner Hanks (Waverly) each had one assist.

Junior Austin Boyke (Verona, Wis.) and senior Zak Kohlmeyer (Waterloo) combined for the shutout.

The Knights were one goal short for the most goals scored in one game.

The Knights will be back in action Wednesday as they host St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m.
