No. 5 Wartburg to Host No. 13 St. John's (Minn.) in NCAA Sweet Sixteen

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Fifth-ranked Wartburg (11-0 overall) will host No. 13 St. John's (Minn.) (10-1) Saturday at noon in a NCAA Sweet Sixteen matchup. The victor will face the winner between No. 1 UW-Whitewater/No. 14 Wabash next weekend in the Elite Eight.

The Series
The Johnnies hold the all-time series lead at 3-0, but the two programs have not met this century. Previous meetings: 1970 (38-0), 1971 (49-13) and 1994 (42-14). The last meeting was also in the NCAA Tournament.

A Look at the Teams
St. John's
St. John's advanced with its 35-7 win over St. Scholastica.  The Johnnies won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) to receive the automatic bid.

Sam Sura leads the attack on the ground with 1,752 yards on 298 carries with 19 TDs. Signalcaller Nick Martin has thrown for 981 yards with 13 TDs. He is 72-118-3.

Josh Bungum leads all receivers with 355 yards on 26 receptions and three TDs. Carter Hanson leads the defense with 88 tackles (50 solo and 38 assists) with 6.0 tackles for a loss of 15 yards.

Wartburg
The Knights advanced with their 37-31 win over St. Thomas in the seventh NCAA playoff win in program history. The Orange and Black were the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) champions and received the automatic bid.

The Orange and Black are making their 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and eighth under head coach Rick Willis.

Junior Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) leads the team on the ground with 992 yards on 178 carries and 17 TDs. Classmate Logan Schrader (Killdeer, Ill.) has 2,742 passing yards with 28 TDs. He is 166-262-5 with a pass efficiency of 182.72.

Senior Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello) leads all receivers with 975 yards on 56 catches and seven TDs. Junior Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) has a team-high ten TD receptions.

Classmate Gunner Tranel (Vinton) leads the defense with 107 tackles (63 solo and 44 assists) and a team-best 10.5 tackles for a loss of 37 yards.

Against the MIAC
Wartburg has faced and defeated all three opponents from the MIAC conference it has faced this season. The Knights opened their season on the road with a 40-3 win over Augsburg, upset then-No. 7 Bethel, 31-14, in the home opener the following week and beat No. 20 St. Thomas, 37-31 last week in the opening round.

Other Notes
-This marks the first second-round game Wartburg has hosted.
-The Knights have tied the school record in wins with 11, which was previously set in 2003.
-Two Gagliardi Trophy semifinalists square off as Wartburg's Logan Schrader (quarterback) and St. John's Sam Sura (running back) are two of the ten semifinalists for Division III's version of the Heisman Trophy.
-There will be two CoSIDA (Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America) College Division Rising Stars in the press box as Wartburg's KatieJo Kuhens was the 2013 recipient and St. John's Ryan Klinker was the 2014 recipient.

Junior Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) is eighth in rushing TDs (32).
 
Classmate Logan Schrader (Killdeer, Ill.) is fourth in passing yards (5,990), pass completions (429) and passing TDs (51) and sixth in passing yards/game (187.2). He is also ninth in total touchdowns scored (33; 32 rushing and 1 receiving).
 
Senior Donald Miller (Maywood, Ill.) is tied for seventh in pass reception TDs (13) and tenth in pass receptions (107) and kick returns (36).
 
Junior Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) is tenth with 12 pass reception TDs.

Classmate Michael Bohlke (Manchester) ranks seventh in PAT kicks made (96) and fourth in field goals made (14).
 
Junior Grant Zimmerman (Mendota, Ill.) is ninth in punt yards (4,939) and sixth in average yards/punt (38.29).
 
Senior Spencer Capitani (Northwood) is third in pass break ups (28) and tenth in punt returns (47). Classmate Casey Krull (Alison) is fifth in fumble return yards (25).
 
Junior Will Janssen (Mediapolis) is the all-time career leader in fumble return TDs (2).
