PELLA, Iowa-- Wartburg defeated the Iowa Conference regular-season champion, Central, 86-83 in overtime Saturday.
The Knights moved to 13-12 on the year and finished conference play with a 7-7 record.
Senior Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. He was one point short and one free throw short of his career-best. Diemer went 11-18 at the charity stripe.
Two teammates joined him in double digits as freshman Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) had 15 points and senior Nate Treibel (Webster City) finished with 11 points.
The Orange and Black had the 44-36 lead at halftime but the Dutch outscored the 38-30 in the second half.
The game was tied for the first time at 68 all with 4:16 left in regulation. The teams traded baskets and Central took the one-point lead on a trey with 2:01 left.
A lauyp from junior Dan Van Groningen (Oak Forest, Ill.) gave Wartburg the one-point lead (74-73) with 0:40 to go.
The Dutch made their free throw to even the score once again at 74 all to send the game to overtime.
In the extra session, the Knights led by five (85-80) with 0:16 and Central sliced the lead to two (85-83) on another three-pointer.
Senior Thomas Perkins (Sun Valley, Nev.) made his first free throw to give the Orange and Black the three-point lead.
The Dutch's last-second three-point attempt was not successful to give the win to Wartburg.
The Knights will face Buena Vista Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the road in the first-round of the Iowa Conference tournament.
