Knights Upset Central in IIAC Quarterfinal, 77-71

Box Score
PELLA, Iowa-- Behind a career-high 27 points from sophomore Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.), Wartburg upset Central, 77-71 Tuesday in the Iowa Conference Tournament Quarterfinal game. Cannon's 27 points were also three shy of Wartburg's all-time Iowa Tournament game high of 30 set by Nate Schmidt against Buena Vista in 2006. Cannon made 11 field goals, which was just two shy of Schmidt's record.

Freshman Nate Woeste joined him in double digits with 13 points. Senior Clay Cook (West Branch) set a new Wartburg Iowa Conference Tournament single-game record with 15 rebounds. This broke the old mark of 14, also set by Schmidt in the Buena Vista game.

Sophomore Nick Webber (Peosta) tied the mark with his four steals, previously set by  Jordan Atchison, Buena Vista (2/26/2005); Rance Cartmill, Simpson (2/27/2004); and Mike Pipho, Luther (2/25/2003).

The Knights are the No. 5 seed in the tournament, while the Dutch are the No. 4. Wartburg led 35-21 at halftime and were able to hold off a strong second-half scoring effort by Central as the host outscored them, 50-42 in the second half.

The Orange and Black will travel to face top-seed Buena Vista Thursday at 7 p.m.
