FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—The No. 23 Wartburg men's basketball team (9-1 overall) defeated SUNY Poly (5-3) on Monday 70-56 in their first game of the Cruzin Classic.
The Knights took the lead over the Wildcats at the 16:25 mark of the first half and held the offensive advantage for the remainder of the game. The Orange and Black captured a 29-19 lead at the haltime buzzer and followed with a 41-point second half to seal the victory and move their win-streak to three games.
Junior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) led the Knights with 18 points, his career-high in scoring. Senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added 12 points, three blocks and three steals.
Rounding out the double-digit scorers on the evening were sophomore Josh Gehling (Dyersville) and senior Nick Webber (Peosta), with ten and eleven points, respectively.
Cannon and junior Clifton Brown (Mims, Fla.) each grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore Camden Kickbush (Reinbeck) had the most assists for Wartburg, recording three.
The Knights will conclude play at the Cruzin Classic tomorrow at 2 p.m. Eastern against North Central College.
