Wartburg Hangs on to Beat Coe

Box Score
WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Wartburg College men's basketball team (13-6 overall, 5-5 IIAC) defeated Coe College (8-11, 4-6) on Wednesday 68-60.

The game began in Wartburg's favor as the team built an eight point lead with 12:17 remaining in the first half, 16-8. At the 6:14 mark, Coe took a 17-16 lead, but that was the last time they would hold the advantage for the remainder of the contest. The Knights took off and poured on ten additional points and the first period ended 31-20 in favor of Wartburg.

Just four minutes into the second half, Wartburg stretched its lead to 20 points, 43-23. The Kohawks responded, cutting the lead to two with 7:16 to play, however the Orange and Black maintained the advantage with timely three-point shots and free throws and held on to win by an eight-point deficit.

The victory completed the season series sweep for the Knights, after topping Coe 70-66 on the road earlier in the season.

Only two Knights scored in the double-digits on the evening. Senior Nick Webber (Peosta) tallied 18 points and classmate Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added 14. Cannon, sophomore Josh Gehling (Dyersville) and junior Nate Woeste (Atkins) each recorded a team-high five rebounds.

Wartburg returns to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Simpson.
