No. 20/22 Wartburg Wins Homecoming Game 42-11

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 20/22 Wartburg football team remained undefeated in its 42-11 win over Loras Saturday. With the win, the Knights are 6-0 overall and 4-0 in IIAC games while the Duhawks fell to 3-4, 2-3. Wartburg has also won 21 of its last 22 home games, which dates back to the 2013 season.

The Orange and Black scored on their first drive of the game in 1:57 as sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.) gave them the early lead with his two-yard touchdown. He then doubled the lead with his 36-yard TD run on Wartburg's next possession.

Loras got on the scoreboard on its ensuing drive that resulted in a 20-yard field goal.

The Knights added to their margin early in the second quarter as junior Matt Sacia (Eldridge) found senior Riley Brockway (Postville) for an 11-yard pass. The Duhawks doubled their lead on their next drive, this time on a 25-yard field goal.

The Orange and Black then compiled a 10-play, 75 yard scoring drive that culminated in another Sacia to Brockway connection. Towards the end of the frame, Sacia found sophomore Denison Harrington (Cedar Falls) for a 66-yard TD, to make it 35-6.

Another Loras field goal was followed by a safety, which made the score 35-11. Senior Chris McNutt (Solon) recorded his second interception of the season and returned it to the 34-yard line in Loras territory. Wartburg needed just two plays as Brockway had his career-high third TD reception of the day to make it 42-11.

Binion had a career-high 152 yards on 23 carries for two touchdowns to lead the team on the ground. Sacia finished 15-23 for 287 yards and four TDs which tied his career mark. He has finished with triple-digit passing yards in 13-straight games and in 15 of his last 16, which dates back to last season.

Senior Rob Rottler (Greene) led the defense with 11 total tackles, while junior Marcus Johnson (Huxley) had a team-best 2.5 TFL. Senior Brayton Brandt (Center Point) tied his career mark with six PATs.

The Knights take to the road next week when they face Luther at 1 p.m.
