WAVERLY, Iowa-- Sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.) had a career-high 187 yards on a career-best 25 carries in No. 16/19 Wartburg's 23-0 win over Dubuque. The Knights move to 8-0 on the season and 6-0 in Iowa Conference games, while the Spartans are 5-3, 3-3. This was the first shutout at home for the Orange and Black since the 2016 season opener against Finlandia, 56-0. This was the first time since 2000 Wartburg won in shutout fashion against Dubuque (67-0).
With the win, Wartburg clinches at least a share of the Iowa Conference title.
The Orange and Black scored on their first drive as they took advantage of the short field position and needed five plays to cover the 35 yards. Binion carried the ball in from seven-yards out to give Wartburg the early lead.
Senior Jordan Johnson (Faribault, Minn.) accounted for all six points in the second quarter as he made field goals of 32 and 30 yards, respectively. The 32-yard kick marked a career-best.
Mid-way through the third quarter, junior Matt Sacia (Eldridge) found sophomore Matt Mulford (New Hampton) in the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown pass. This was Mulford's first collegiate TD.
Johnson accounted for the final three points on the Knights' first drive of the fourth quarter, this time, for a 29-yard field goal.
Binion led all players on the ground with his 187. Sacia was 12-26-1 for 157 yards. Senior Riley Brockway (Postville) led the receivers with five catches for 50 yards. Senior Tony Anstoetter (Farley) led the defense with 15 total tackles and 1.5 TFL.
The Orange and Black take to the road next week as they travel to Buena Vista.
