WAVERLY, Iowa--The No. 21 Wartburg men's basketball team (2-1 overall) defeated Aurora (1-1), 80-66 Saturday to win the Buzz Levick Tournament Championship.
Senior Nate Woeste (Atkins) netted a career-high 27 points, which bested his previous mark of 23 set against Grinnell last season. Junior Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) narrowly missed double-digits as he had nine points with three treys.
Woeste was named to the All-Tournament team and was selected as the tournament MVP. Sabus also earned All-Tournament team honors.
The Knights held the lead over the Spartans at halftime, 35-29.
The Spartans were able to tie the game five times in the frame, which included 55-55 with 7:19 remaining. The Orange and Black answered with a 12-4 run over the next just over two minutes to build their lead to eight, and eventually led by as many as 17 points late in the game.
As a team, Wartburg held Aurora to .200 as a team behind the arc.
The Knights travel for the Waldorf Classic on Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25.
