FOREST CITY, Iowa--The No. 21 Wartburg men's basketball team (3-1 overall) defeated Graceland (5-5), 78-71 at the Waldorf Classic Friday.
Senior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) scored a career-high 26 points, breaking his previous record of 18 that he set against SUNY Poly last season. He also surpassed his career mark of five treys, netting eight against the Yellowjackets. Herman's eight three pointers tied the program record for most three point field goals set by Todd Reinhardt in 1989-90 and Mark Franzen 1994.
Senior Nate Woeste (Atkins) also tallied double-digit points with 17 and was a perfect six-for-six from the free throw line.
Woeste and junior Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) each recorded four assists.
On the defensive effort for the Knights, junior Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) led the team in rebounds with 10 boards. Senior Clifton Brown (Mims, Fla.) had a team-best two blocks.
As a team, the Orange and Black tied the single-game record with 16 treys. This mark was previously set against Ashford (12/10/2005) and then-No. 10 Benedictine (Ill.) in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Wartburg will face Waldorf tomorrow at 3 p.m.
