Iowa Conference Tournament
The No. 6 seeded Knights upset No. 3 Buena Vista on Wednesday 74-68 and No. 5 Central upset No. 4 Simpson that same night 76-66. The Orange and Black will travel to No. 2 Loras and Central will face No. 1 Nebraska Wesleyan on the road. The winner of each game will advance to Saturday's IIAC championship with time and host to be determined. However, because the higher seed will host the finals, Wartburg is out of home-court contention even if they are victorious over the Duhawks on Thursday.
The Series
Wartburg leads the all-time series advantage 43-28 over Loras. The teams split during the regular season with the Duhawks winning 84-75 on the road and the Knights taking a 104-85 victory as the away team.
Wartburg
The Orange and Black are now on a three-game winning streak. Wednesday's win brought on two record book changes. The team compiled 13 three-point shots, the most of any Iowa Conference tournament game for Wartburg, which shattered the previous record of 11 three-pointers. Five Knights contributed including seniors Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and Nick Webber (Peosta), juniors Nate Woeste (Atkins) and Sawyer Herman (Monticello) and sophomore Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck).
Cannon's 17 points on the night propelled him to take over the second place spot in Wartburg's all-time career scoring category. Cannon currently sits at total 1,524 points during his time in Orange and Black. GE Buenning, who played from 1966-1970, remains the program's top all-time scorer with 1,928 points.
Loras
The Duhawks will take the court on a one-game skid after falling to Nebraska Wesleyan during the final regular season game and receiving a first-round bye on Tuesday night. Justin VanWambeke (17.8 points per game), Ryan DiCanio (15.8), Demond George (13.0), Christian Mathis (11.1) and Josh Ruggles (10.0) lead the Loras offense.
