Wartburg to Face Augustana (Ill.) in Sweet Sixteen

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg College (21-9 overall) will face Augustana (Ill.) (21-8) Friday in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Eastern. Hope College in Holland, Mich. will serve as host. The winner of this game will face the winner of No. 18 Hope/No. 12 Hanover in the Elite Eight Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern. This is Wartburg's first appearance in the Sweet Sixteen round since 1991.

Wartburg enters the weekend on an overall winning streak of seven and has won the last five-straight on the road. The Vikings have won their past two games after falling 69-64 to North Central in the CCIW Conference Tournament Championship.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 616-395-7890 beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern Tuesday, March 7. All general admission. $10 adults and $5 students. There will be designated seating behind the benches for the fans for the team competing in that contest.

Directions to DeVos Field House.
Parking at DeVos Fieldhouse: Click parking to see lot numbers. On Friday and Saturday, free parking will be available in lots surrounding DeVos Fieldhouse and on campus. Lot 61 off Ninth Street on the north side of DeVos Fieldhouse will be reserved for game officials, event staff and media.

How the Teams Advanced
Augustana advanced in the bracket on two buzzer beaters. The first knocked off defending National Champion St. Thomas in the First-round Friday (77-74) and the second defeated UW-Whitewater, 72-70, in the Second-round Saturday.

Wartburg moved forward in the tournament with upset wins over two Top 10 teams. The Knights beat No. 10 Benedictine (Ill.) 92-66 Friday and No 4 UW-River Falls 76-43 Saturday.

The Series
Augustana holds the all-time series lead at 5-2, but the programs have not met since December 2007. The Knights and Vikings have previously met once before in the NCAA Tournament. Augustana won on a half-court shot, 62-61, in the Regional Championships (Sweet Sixteen) in the old Knights Gym in 1975. (Bracket was 32 teams then). This was also the first year Wartburg joined the NCAA after being NAIA.

Wartburg
The Knights have won seven consecutive games, including five straight road games. The Knights average 85.2 total points per contest. Senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) is the top scorer for the Orange and Black with an average of 16.0 points per game. Sophomore Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) averages 13.5 points, senior Nick Webber contributes 12.4 points per game, and junior Nate Woeste (Atkins) has a 12.0 point average. Cannon also leads the squad in rebounds (4.8 per contest), Webber has the most assists (77 total) and Woeste is the team leader in steals (30 total).

Augustana (Rock Island, Ill.)
The Vikings average 77.8 points per game. The team's offense is led by five players who average double digits including Chrishawn Orange (14.1 points per game), Dylan Sortillo (12.9), Jacob Johnston (12.7), Pierson Wofford (10.9) and Nolan Ebel (10.3). Sortillo scored 28 points in Augustana's second-round victory over UW-Whitewater.

Hope (Holland, Mich.)
The Flying Dutchmen bring in a 81.8 points per game average. Harrison Blackledge is the team's top scorer, averaging 20.0 points per game. Dante Hawkins follows with 16.1 points, Chad Carlson adds 13.5, and Cody Stuive averages 10.2. Stuive had 37 points in the team's win in the second-round of tournament play over Washington-St. Louis.

Hanover (Hanover, Ind.)
The Panthers enter Friday's contest on an 11-game win streak and averaging 77.6 points per game. Wes McKinney is Hanover's offensive leader with a 18.3 points per game average. Cam Fails follows with 15.1 points per game and Corey Muchmore averages 14.1 points.
