WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team moved to 6-1 on the season in the five-set victory over Augsburg (7-3) Friday to open its annual Knights Classic Tournament.
The Auggies claimed the first two sets, 25-22 amd 27-25 before the Knights claimed the last three, 28-26, 25-17 and 15-10.
Senior Aryn Jones (Marion) had a career-high 20 kills. Sophomore Megan Wagaman (Springville) also set a new career mark with her 11 kills. Freshman Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) rounded out the leading hitters with her new career-best of 10 kills.
Junior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had 26 assists and senior Maria Brown (Peosta) had 24 as they ran the offense.
Four different players had three service aces as the Orange and Black had 14 on the night, just two shy of the single-game record.
Freshman Katie Foster (Charles City) kept the theme going and had a new career mark of 23 digs. Junior Lizzy Blough (Dike) and sophomore Abby Staebell (Hudson) each had 16 digs in the match.
As a team, Wartburg held all of the team category advantages.
The Knights concludes the tournament Saturday against Cornell and Waldorf.
