Strong Second Half Propels Knights Past Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team moved to 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in Iowa Conference play with its 40-31 comeback victory over Simpson (1-2, 0-1) Saturday.

The Storm led 24-21 at halftime and then the game was delayed 90 minutes due to lightning in the area. The Knights scored 17 unanswered points in the second half, including 10 in the third quarter alone, to retake the lead for good.

In their first drive of the second half, the Orange and Black had a 13-play, 74-yard drive that resulted in a 23-yard field goal by junior Brayton Brandt (Center Point) to knot the score at 24 all.

On its ensuing drive, Wartburg needed four plays to cover the 55 yards, which included a 43-yard run by sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.), to take the 31-24 lead with 6:19 to play in the frame.

Binion recorded his second-straight 100-yard game, and fourth of his career, as he finished with 110.

Sophomore Dennison Harrington (Cedar Falls) caught a seven-yard pass to make it 38-24 with 7:18 remaining. This was his second TD of the game, which set a new career best.

The Knights' final score was a safety, a result of a penalty on Simpson with 2:06 to play. The Storm then attempted an on-side kick which was recovered by senior Riley Brockway (Postville). Brockway finished with 105 receiving yards.

Junior quarterback Matt Sacia (Eldridge) had 240 passing yards with three TDs. This was the ninth-straight game and 11 of his last 12 that he has finished in triple digits.

Freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.), junior Connor Frerichs (New Hampton) and sophomore Cedric Dobbins (Waukee) all finished with 11 tackles. Junior Peyton Imhoff (Dubuque) had the interception in the end zone at the end of the first half, and had three pass breakups.

The Orange and Black return to the field next Saturday when they host Washington University in St. Louis next week at 1 p.m. at Walston-Hoover Stadium.
