Knights Beat Bears 30-20

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team moved to 3-0 in its 30-20 win over Washington University in St. Louis (1-3) Saturday.

The Knights took the early 7-0 lead on their first drive of the game, as senior Connor Schrader (Lake Zurich, Ill.) punched it in from one-yard out. The same story rang true on the first drive of the second quarter as Schrader again scored from the one-yard line.

Senior Noah Dahlstrom (Mount Vernon) intercepted a Bears' pass at the 50-yard line and the Orange and Black capitalized on the turnover as quarterback Matt Sacia (Eldridge) kept himself for a five-yard score to make it 21-0.

WashU quickly answered with a six-play, 78-yard drive in 1:10 to get on the scoreboard.

Two consecutive field goals for the Bears made it 21-13. A field goal by senior Brayton Brandt (Center Point) helped increase Wartburg's lead to 24-13.

On WashU's first drive of the fourth quarter, freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) intercepted a pass at the 20 and returned it 80 yards for the pick six.

The Bears compiled another quick scoring drive needing three plays for 77 yards in 51 seconds for their final TD of the day.

Sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.) led the team on the ground with 80 yards. Schrader finished with 46 yards and two TDs. Sacia was 20-32 for 217 yards. He has finished with triple-digit passing yards in 10-straight games and 12 of his last 13, which dates back to last season.

Senior Riley Brockway (Postville) finished just shy of triple digits with 93 receiving yards.

McNair led the defense with 14 total tackles and four pass breakups.

The Knights return to the field next Saturday and resume conference play against Coe.
