WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team remained undefeated at 4-0 with its 34-7 win over Coe Saturday. The Kohawks have now dropped two-straight and are 3-2 overall.
This game featured five interceptions made by the Knights, which included two from junior Peyton Imhoff (Dubuque). This was one shy of the individual game record of three which has occurred three times in program history.
On their second drive of the game, the Knights capitalized on the field possession and compiled a 10-play, 56-yard drive as sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.) carried it in from eight-yards out.
On its ensuing drive, junior Matt Sacia (Eldridge) connected with sophomore Denison Harrington (Cedar Falls) for a 40-yard touchdown pass.
The teams traded possessions until mid-way through the second quarter when Imhoff had his first INT of the day with 6:20 to go in the frame. After the field goal attempt was blocked. Wartburg had its second interception, this one by sophomore Cedric Dobbins (Waukee). The Knights were unable to score on the series, but led 14-0 heading into halftime.
Since they deferred to the second half, the Orange and Black had the ball to start the third quarter, in which concluded again in a 40-yard TD pass, this time caught by senior Griffin Brennecke (Marion).
Coe got on the board with 2:56 left in the third on an eight-yard pass.
Senior Riley Brockway (Postville) had his first of two consecutive touchdown receptions, this one for 15-yards, on the first drive of the fourth quarter to make it 28-7. Freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) made the interception on the Kohawks next drive. Brockway ended the 60-yard drive with an eight-yard reception to make it 34-7.
Imhoff had his second INT on Coe's next drive and senior Noah Dahlstrom (Mount Vernon) sealed the win with his interception with 19 seconds remaining.
Sacia finished with 360 yard, was 24-35 with four TD passes, just one shy of the single game school record. He has finished with triple-digit passing yards in 11-straight games and 13 of his last 14, which dates back to last season.
Brennecke had 154 receiving yards with one TD while Brockway had 89 with two TDs.
Senior Rob Rottler (Greene) led the defense with nine total tackles.
Wartburg takes to the road next week when it will face Central at 1 p.m.
