WAVERLY, Iowa-- In what continues to be the story this season, senior Aryn Jones (Marion) set a new career best with 23 kills in Wartburg's 3-2 win over Coe Wednesday. She has reset her mark three times so far this year.
With the win, the Knights move to 8-2 on the year and are 1-0 in IIAC matches while the Kohawks are 7-6, 1-1.
The Orange and Black claimed the first two sets by the same score, 25-12. Coe won the next two, 25-20 and 25-22, to force a fifth set.
In the deciding frame, Wartburg took the 9-7 lead, then won the match on a six-point rally.
Junior Lizzy Blough (Dike) tied her career-high with four services aces to lead all players. She also recorded 10 kills and 12 digs.
Senior Maria Brown (Peosta) had 23 assists and junior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) tallied a double double with 20 assists and 10 digs.
Freshman Katie Foster (Charles City) had a team-high 17 digs.
The Knights held all of the team advantages and kept the Kohawks to a .096 team hitting percentage.
The Orange and Black notably had more aces (12-4) and blocks (14-5).
Wartburg takes to the road this weekend for the IIAC/NACC Crossover Challenge in Mequon, Wis.
