Knights Travel to Face Prairie Wolves

WAVERLY, Iowa--The Wartburg men's basketball team (12-4 overall, 5-2 IIAC) travel to face Nebraska Wesleyan (14-2, 5-2) Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m.

The Series
Wartburg has a narrow lead in the all-time series against Nebraska Wesleyan at 3-2. The Orange and Black split last season's meetings, defeating the Prairie Wolves, 92-76 on Nov. 30 and then falling to Nebraska Wesleyan, 85-98 on Jan. 21.

Wartburg enters Wednesday's game after defeating Buena Vista at home, 85-65 on Jan. 15. 

The Knights' offense is co-led by three players averaging double digit points per game. Junior Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) has a team-best 15.4 points per game. Seniors Sawyer Herman (Monticello) and Nate Woeste (Atkins) also score double digit points at 12.9 and 11.1, respectively. Junior Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) has a team-high 38 assists this season. 

On the defensive side of the ball for the Knights, Sabus leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 grabs per game. Freshman Max Smith Drahos (Cedar Rapids) has a team-best 24 steals on the year, with Woeste tallying nine blocks. 

Nebraska Wesleyan
Nebraska Wesleyan comes into Wednesday's game after defeating Coe, 85-69, in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 15. 

The Prairie Wolves' offense is powered by six players averaging double digit points per game: Cooper Cook (18.0), Ryan Garver (13.3), Deion Wells-Ross (13.0), Jack Hiller (12.9), Nate Schimontiz (12.2) and Nate Bahe (11.2). Garver and Wells-Ross each have 66 assists on the year. 

Defensively for Nebraska Wesleyan, Wells-Ross averages a team-best 10.1 rebounds per game. Garver has tallied a team-high 38 steals, with Cook recording 30 blocks.

Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of eight statistical categories, which the NCAA released Monday.
 
The Knights rank 19th in personal fouls per game (14.9), 33rd in three-point field goal defense (30.7), 44th in field-goal percentage defense (40.3), 44th in fewest fouls (224), 56th in scoring defense (68.7), 66th in defensive rebounds per game (29.13), 67th in won-lost percentage (73.3), and 88th in field-goal percentage (46.9).
 
Individually, two Knights rank in the top 100 of two statistical categories: Woeste ranks 100th in free-throw percentage (84.7), and Sabus ranks 78th in field-goal percentage (56.9).
