Knights and Norse End In 2-2 Double Overtime Tie

Brandon Lindholm

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights men's soccer team drew a 2-2 double overtime tie against Luther Saturday.

The Knights (8-5-1 overall, 4-1-1 A-R-C) and the Norse (10-3-1, 3-1-1) went through the first half of tonight's game without scoring, as both teams shot a combined 0-10. The Norse got the second half started with a goal that hit the left side of the net from Aidan O'Driscoll at the 51:36-minute mark. Wartburg would even the game at 1-1 with a goal from senior midfielder Daniel Luzindya (Cedar Rapids) off of an assist from fellow senior Ayo Adebayo (Rochester, Minn.) only five minutes later at the 56:31 mark.

Nearly 30 minutes later, the Knights would strike again as senior Ben Johnson (Marion) would score his team-leading eighth goal of the year off of a penalty kick coming at the 81:38-minute mark to bring the Knights up 2-1. The final goal of regulation came in the 84th minute as Luther's Aidan O'Driscoll scored his second goal of the game on a shot that hit the top right corner.

The Knights and Norse would take the 2-2 tie throughout two overtime periods before the game ended in a draw.

The Knights will return to action on Oct. 17, when they travel to Dubuque to take on Loras College.
