DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights men's soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Loras College on Wednesday night.
The Knights (8-6-1 overall, 4-2-1 A-R-C) gave up the first goal of the game merely three and a half minutes into tonight's contest on an own goal to give the Duhawks (10-2, 4-1) the early 1-0 lead. Wartburg would attempt eight shots throughout the first period, with none of the shots connecting with the goal. The Knights would go into the half trailing the Duhawks 1-0.
The Knights would tie the game up four minutes into the second half, as senior forward
Ayo Adebayo (Rochester, Minn.) scored his seventh goal of the year on a shot from inside the 18-yard box. The Knights and Duhawks would exchange shots throughout the second period, only for the score to end in a 1-1 tie and would head into overtime.
The first overtime session would see the Knights attempt two shots to the Duhawks' three. Both teams recorded shots on goal, but both team's goalies made saves and the game would head into a second overtime period. The Duhawks wouldn't require much time to score, as they connected on a shot from Javi Simon inside the six-yard box. The goal would effectively end the night for the Knights, who dropped to 8-6-1 on the year.
The Knights will look to record their ninth win of the year on Saturday, Oct. 20, as they host Simpson College in their final American Rivers Conference match of the regular season.
