DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights women's soccer team advanced to 11-4-1 on the season after dealing the Loras College Duhawks (12-3 overall, 5-1 A-R-C) a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday evening, giving the Knights their first win over Loras since Oct. 10, 2015.

th minute of the match after freshman defender
Hailey Osburn (Ankeny) scored after a scramble in the six-yard box. The score gave the Knights a 1-0 lead that they would hold throughout the first-half of the match. At the half, the Duhawks were out-shooting the Knights 8-6, but couldn't find the back of the net. Four of the eight Duhawk shots were on goal, but were saved from Knights freshman goalie
Marissa Lopez (Ankeny), who recorded her 56
th save on the season before the break.
The Knights 1-0 lead would fall at the 73:29-minute mark, as Loras scored its first goal of the match on a Brynn Jacobi shot off of a pass from Brianna Arreguin. The 1-1 tie seemed as if it were going to head into overtime, before Knights senior forward
Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids) scored her sixth goal of the year midway through the 88
th minute of the contest, giving the Knights the final push to finish the match and leave Dubuque with a 2-1 win. The goal was assisted on a cross from freshmen forward
Joy Smith (Polk City), who records her first career assist with the goal.
Lopez secured her ninth win of the year after recording eight saves on 23 total shots from the Duhawks. Her season in saves total now stands at 60 overall.
The Knights will be back in action this Saturday when they take on the Simpson College in Waverly at 5 p.m.
