Wartburg Ends Regular Season With Tie Against UW-Platteville

Brandon Lindholm

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights ended their regular season on Tuesday evening with a 0-0 double overtime tie against No. 18 UW-Platteville.

The Knights (9-6-2 overall, 5-2-1 A-R-C) attempted 14 shots throughout the game, compared to the Pioneers (11-1-3, 6-0-1) who attempted 10. Senior forward Ben Johnson (Marion) and sophomore forward Jack Palen (Norwalk) led the Knights in shots with four apiece. Both teams had a few windows to score, but were unable to find the back-end of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Gunnar Lenzen (Cedar Rapids) got the nod to start tonight and backed it up by recording six saves, including a few off acrobatic dives in his 110 minutes of action. The tie brings Lenzen's season record to 0-4-1. Additionally, the tie gives the Knights a regular season home record of 5-2-2, marking their best home record since 2016.

The Knights have secured the third seed in the American Rivers Conference Tournament and will first-round action on Saturday, Oct. 27, as they welcome in the sixth-seeded Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves at a 3 p.m.
