Sacia Ties Single Game School Record For Second Straight Game

DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Senior Matt Sacia (Eldridge) tied the single-game school record with five touchdown passes for the second-straight game in Wartburg's 56-14 win over Loras Saturday. The Knights move to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in American Rivers Conference games.

This was the third time in Sacia's career that he has tied this record, as he first accomplished this against Nebraska Wesleyan last season, and against then-No. 20 Central last week. This is the ninth time in school history this mark has been reached.

The Duhawks took the early lead on their second drive of the game until the Orange and Black evened it at seven all on their first drive of the second quarter, as Sacia found sophomore JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) for a 13-yard score.

Wartburg took the 14-7 lead on its next drive as junior Mason Carter (North Liberty) ran it in from seven-yards out. Sacia connected with junior Lee Bonifus (Asbury) for the second TD pass and McNair for the third just before halftime as the Knights took the 28-7 lead into the locker room.

To open the second half, McNair scored on a 91-yard kickoff return to push the score to 36-7. He was shy of the school record which is 100 yards set by Trevor Shannon against Luther in 1996.

Sacia found McNair for the fourth TD on the team's next drive and junior Matt Mulford (New Hampton) at the end of the third quarter to tie the single game school record.

Sacia finished 18-21 for 306 yards and five TDs. He has finished with triple-digit passing yards in 28 straight games and 30 of his last 31, which dates back to the 2016 season.
McNair had eight catches for 149 yards with a career-high three TDs. Carter led the team on the ground with 76 yards on 15 carries.

Noah Dodd scored the last TD for the Orange and Black on its first drive of the fourth quarter. Loras scored its final TD on the ensuing drive.

Wartburg returns to the field next Saturday when it hosts Luther at 1 p.m. in the annual Senior Day.
