Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Cruise to 2-1 Victory Over Spartans

Brandon Lindholm

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Wartburg Knights men's soccer team traveled to Dubuque on Thursday night and left victorious as they took down the University of Dubuque Spartans 2-1 in American Rivers Conference play.

The Knights (6-5 overall, 2-1 ARC) scored the first goal of the game just into the match's 19th minute, as senior forward Ayo Adebayo (Rochester, Minn.) received a pass from fellow senior Daniel Luzindya (Cedar Rapids) that got into the box and through a few defenders for the easy tap-in goal. That goal was the only goal for both teams in the first half, as the Knights would take the 1-0 lead into the break.

At the half, the teams were fairly matched up from an offensive standpoint. The Knights attempted eight shots compared to the Spartans' nine, both teams attempted the same amount of corner kicks and both teams were similarly matched in fouls.

The second half would get underway and would welcome in another Knights goal, this time by junior Riley Close (Polk City) coming off of an assist from Nick Schwake (Bettendorf). The Knights would hold the Spartans scoreless up until the match's 87th minute, when Alessandro Corazzina scored on a Gloire Luwara pass. Senior goalkeeper Paul Koebke Barsic (Madison, Wis.) would lock up the goal for the rest of the way as the Knights managed to come out of the contest with a  2-1 victory.

The Knights will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 6, to face Nebraska Wesleyan University at 2:30 p.m. on senior night.
