WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team (10-8 overall, 3-1 A-R-C) swept Central (10-10, 1-3) 3-0 Saturday (25-19, 25-19, 25-14).
Senior Lizzy Blough (Dike) led all hitters with 10 kills, while classmate Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had 27 set assists. Two players finished in double digit digs as sophomore Katie Foster (Charles City) had 20 and freshman Claire Marsh (Waverly) had 10. The duo also contributed three service aces each.
In the first set, the Knights battled back to tie it at 15 all after trailing 13-9. The score of the second frame remained close until the Orange and Black took the 12-11 lead. This was in the midst of a six-point run to later lead 15-11.
Wartburg jumped to the 12-4 lead in the third set. Sophomore Sydney Rottinghaus (Mason City) served for match point. This is noteworthy as she played in Wartburg's first win over Luther in women's tennis history earlier this morning.
The Knights take to the road Wednesday to face Coe at 7:30 p.m.
