STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Wartburg Knights men's soccer team won a tightly contested game over the Beavers of Buena Vista in 1-0 fashion on Tuesday evening, bringing their win streak over Buena Vista to 16-straight games.
The Knights (8-5 overall, 4-1 ARC) started the game by taking the first five shots before Buena Vista (0-12-1, 0-3) was able to get to the Knights' side of the field to attempt their first shot. Back and forth the two teams would go, taking the scoreless affair into the half 0-0.
At the half, the Knights had attempted 13 shots to the Beavers five and attempted five corner kicks to Buena Vista's one. Buena Vista led the game in saves, as Beaver's goalie Manuel Aguilar collected five of his 11 saves in the first half to bring his conference-leading total to 92.
The Knights and Beavers would continue to go back and forth offensively, trading shots throughout the second half until sophomore midfielder
Samuel Thomann (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) found the back end of the net at the 87:30-minute mark for the second time in his career, and for the game's first goal to give the Knights the 1-0 lead late in the match. Buena Vista would struggle to find a shot before time expired as the Knights would leave Storm Lake victorious for the third game in a row.

Paul Koebke Barsic (Madison, Wis.) collected three saves in route to his eighth win of the year while collecting his fifth shutout of the season to help secure the victory for the Knights. Over the span of the Knights 16-straight win streak over Buena Vista, the Knights have outscored the Beavers 62-4.
The Knights will look to add onto their three-game win streak this weekend as they play host to rival Luther College on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
