Knights Face Duhawks In A-R-C Tournament Finals

WAVERLY, Iowa – The No. 2 seeded Wartburg College Knights women's soccer team (13-4-1 overall, 6-1-1 A-R-C) will travel to face the No. 1 seeded Loras College Duhawks (15-3, 7-1) in the American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m.

American Rivers Conference Title on the Line
On Wednesday, No. 2 Wartburg defeated No. 3 Luther College 2-0 and No. 1 Loras defeated No. 4 Dubuque 3-2 in the A-R-C semifinals. The winner of Saturday's match will be crowned the A-R-C Tournament champion and will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA DIII Tournament.
 
The Series
The Knights and Duhawks have met a total of 37 times throughout their individual histories, with the Duhawks owning the series record at 22-6-9. The last time the two teams met was on Oct. 17, where the Knights came away with a 2-1 victory off of a late goal from Alyssa Drewelow in the match's 88th minute.
 
Wartburg
The Knights are seeking their first tournament championship since 2015 and are coming into the tournament championship tied for the league's second most efficient offense at 45 goals scored in 18 games this season. Leading the Knights in goals scored is senior forward Nicole Adair (Reinbeck) with 10 goals scored this season. Trailing Adair is a pair of forwards, senior Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids) with seven and freshman Joy Smith (Polk City) with six goals score apiece. Adair leads the team in assists with 8.
 
As a team, Wartburg has outscored their opponents 45 to 15, tied for the league's biggest difference between goals scored and goals given up. The Orange and Black's 355 shots this season rank second in the A-R-C, in addition to their score average (2.50 goals per game).
 
Freshman goalkeeper Marissa Lopez (Ankeny) leads the league in goals against average (.609), save percentage (.889) and owns a league-low in goals against with eight. Lopez is second in the A-R-C among goalies in minutes played (1,183), tied for third in shutouts (4) and sixth in saves (64). Lopez's defensive dominance has earned her a 11-2-1 record this season.
 
Head coach Tiffany Pins is seeking her second and program's third conference tournament title. Coaching her ninth year at Wartburg, Pins owns an all-time record of 95-44-23. With a win, Pins will tie former coach Jim Conlon (2000-07) for the most wins in program history (96).
 
Loras
The Duhawks boast the league's best scoring offense at 53 goals in 18 games. Leading Loras in scoring are Gretchen Schutz and Brynn Jacobi with 10 goals each. Schutz leads the team and the league in assists with nine on the season. Goalkeeper Kaylee Coble leads the Duhawks under the net and owns a 15-3 record on the season with 41 saves in 1,595 minutes of action.
 
The Duhawks are coached by Matt Pucci, who is coaching his third season as the head coach of the Loras women. Pucci has led Loras to two A-R-C Tournament Championships in his first two seasons. Based on his efforts last season, Pucci was the 2017 Co-Conference Coach of the Year.
 
National Stat Rankings
The Wartburg women rank in the top 100 of eight statistical categories, which the NCAA released on Friday. The Knights rank 61st in save percentage (.847), tied for 61st in win-loss-tie percentage (.75), tied for 75th in goals (45), tied for 79th in goals per game (2.5), 80th in goals against average (.811), tied for 84th in total points (118), tied for 86th in points per game (6.56) and tied for 100th in total assists (28).
 
Two Knights rank in the top 100 of four statistical categories. Nicole Adair is tied for 66th in total assists (8) and tied for 91st in assists per game (.44). Marissa Lopez is tied for 21st in save percentage (.889) and is 45th overall in goals against average (.609).
