WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights men's basketball team (3-0 overall) will play host this weekend to the Doane University Tigers (1-7) on Friday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m., followed by the Dordt College Defenders (6-2) on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 5 p.m.

The Series
Wartburg has faced Doane University a total of four times throughout the history of the program. The Knights own the series record at 3-1. The last time the two programs met was on Dec. 1, 1950, where the Tigers defeated the Knights 84-54.
Wartburg has faced Dordt College 21 times since first facing the program on Dec. 14, 1973. The Knights own a series record of 14-7 over the Defenders. The last time the two programs faced each other was on Dec. 4, 1993 in an 83-71 Wartburg victory. The Knights have won the past five matchups over the Defenders.

Wartburg
The Knights are off to a 3-0 start to the season after defeating the Cornell College Rams 95-59 for the second time this season. Leading the way in scoring for the Orange and Black is senior guard
Jaran Sabus (Urbandale), who leads all Knights by averaging 16.7 points per game. Junior center
Ryan Stulken (Walford) trails Sabus in scoring (10.7 PPG) but leads the Knights in rebounds at 7.7 per game. Sophomore guard
Max Smith Drahos (Cedar Rapids) has been a defensive presence thus far for the Orange and Black by leading the team in steals (11).
Doane University
The Tigers are in the midst of a seven game losing streak that extends back to Oct. 30. Leading the team in scoring is sophomore guard Nick Kornieck at 15.4 points per game. Kornieck also leads the team in rebounds (5 RPG) and assists (2.9 APG). Trailing Kornieck in points is sophomore center Trace Tupper, scoring 14.4 points per game, and senior guard Koh Flippin, who averages 14 points per contest. As a team, the Tigers have been out-scored by their opponents per-game at a rate of 81.1 to 73.4.
Doane is coached by Ian McKeithen, who enters his third season coaching the Tigers and owns a record of 28-42 during his time at Doane.
Dordt College
The Defenders are led in scoring by sophomore forward Garrett Franken and sophomore guard Jesse Jansma with 14.3 points per contest. Dordt has averaged 81.9 points per game, in comparison to their opponents scoring only 74.4 per contest. Franken leads Dordt in rebounds, pulling in 8.1 per contest. To date, the Defenders are out-rebounding their opponents by a total of 349 to 278. Junior forward Chad Barkema is Franken's frontcourt counterpart and has been a steady presence thus far, averaging 10.9 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per contest.
The Defenders are coached by Brian Van Haaften, who enters his first season at the helm for Dordt after coming over from American Rivers Conference foe Buena Vista University, where he coached from 1996-2017. During his time at Buena Vista, Haaften earned a career record of 414-188 and compiled six 20-win seasons.
