WAVERLY, Iowa-- No. 7/9 Concordia Chicago (9-2 overall) defeated Wartburg (6-5) 4-2 Saturday.
The Cougars took the early 1-0 lead in their first at-bats as the leadoff man hit a single, moved to third on the next guys' single to right and then scored on the groundout.
This remained the score until the fifth as CUC added two runs on a stolen base and an RBI single to take the 3-0 lead.
The Knights got on the scoreboard in the seventh as pinch runner freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) scored on a wild pitch and senior Clint Kannegieter (Aplington) scored on classmate David Fitzgerald's (Dubuque) RBI single to slice the margin to one, 3-2.
Concordia tallied its final run in the ninth on a bases loaded walk.
Senior Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) struck out six in his five complete innings of work.
The Orange and Black return to the field tomorrow when they host No. 17 St. Thomas at 3 p.m.
