SAUGET, Ill.-- The Wartburg baseball team (9-5 overall) won both games Sunday, as it defeated Rose-Hulman 3-0 and upset No. 14/22 Webster 3-1.
Against Rose-Hulman, the game was scoreless until the third inning. Senior Eric Willis (Waverly) scored on a bases loaded walk to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. Freshman Adam Sacia (Eldridge) doubled the margin in the fourth as he scored on a Fightin' Engineers fielding error.
Rose-Hulman did not have a baserunner advance past second until the sixth, when the leadoff hitter drew a walk and then advanced to third on the next guy's double. He would be stranded at third as the next three batters were retired in order.
Willis later scored the final run for the Orange and Black in the eighth, again taking advantage of another error. He finished 2-4 with two runs.
Sophomore Benjamin Milewski (Lake Villa, Ill.) pitched a career-high 6.0 innings and struck out five to earn the win. Senior Austin Bohling (Letts) was credited with the save.
The Gorloks took the 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single through the left side.
Willis gave Wartburg the 2-1 lead in the third on his two-run homer over the left field fence. This remained the score until the sixth when sophomore Joseph Baumann (Woodbury, Minn.) crossed the plate on Willis' single to short.
Senior Tanner Eckhart (Monticello, Minn.) pitched 7.0 innings and fanned six to earn the win. Classmate Chris Tomkins (Dubuque) earned the save.
Wartburg returns to the field Friday when it begins Iowa Conference play at Nebraska Wesleyan.
