WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (15-17 overall, 5-11 IIAC) split the doubleheader with Buena Vista (21-15, 6-10) Saturday. BV took the first one 3-2, but the Knights claimed the finale, 7-5.
In the first game, the Orange and Black took the early 1-0 lead in the first as it took advantage of a fielding error. Buena Vista answered with two in the second on an RBI single and double, to make it 2-1.
Wartburg tied it in the third as junior Liz Roby-Miklus (Ankeny) scored on classmate Kailee O'Brien's (Altoona) double to left. BV scored the go-ahead run in the fourth on another RBI double.
No baserunners from either team advanced past first for the duration of the game. O'Brien was 2-3 at the plate
In the finale, the Knights jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first. Buena Vista sliced the margin to one on a two-run home run and a solo homer in the second. The Orange and Black answered with two in the second to make it 6-3.
Wartburg added another run in the third on an RBI single from junior Hannah Onken (Jefferson). BV tallied two in the fourth which made it 7-5.
Freshman Lauren Reicks (Cresco) earned the save. Roby-Miklus went 2-4 with two runs scored and senior Mara Forsyth (Charles City) was also 2-4 with two RBIs.
The Knights conclude their season Tuesday on the road against Grinnell at 3:30 p.m
