WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (14-8 overall, 5-3 IIAC) fell 7-3 to Loras (16-5, 5-1) in the final game of the conference series Sunday, which gave the Duhawks the series sweep.
Loras led 2-0 after the second, but the Knights tied it in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and a fielding error.
The Duhawks took the 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth, but the Orange and Black sliced the margin to one in the bottom of the frame as sophomore Tyler Hovick (Roland) scored on a wild pitch.
The score remained 4-3 until the ninth, when Loras plated three on as many hits.
Freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill) was 2-4 and both of his hits were for extra bases with a double and a triple.
This unfortunately marked the first time since 1995 that Wartburg has surrendered all games in the conference series to Loras, and the first time Wartburg has lost three-straight at home since 2010. (April 11-13: the doubleheader against Grinnell and the first game of the doubleheader against Buena Vista).
The Knights return to the field Tuesday to host Simpson in the single nine-inning game to complete the conference series. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
