Knights Take Down UW-River Falls, Improve to 2-0 on Season

RIVER FALLS – The Wartburg Knights women's soccer team combined for five goals in a 5-1 and will jump to 2-0 on the season after a victory over the UW-River Falls Falcons Saturday afternoon at Ramer Field in River Falls, Wisconsin.

Senior forward Nicole Adair (Reinbeck) got the Knights on the board midway through the 16th minute, scoring her first goal of the year coming off a header off the corner from senior forward Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids).

Sophomore midfielder Anna Rood (Ames) kept up the offensive attack, scoring her first goal of the season on a shot that connected in the top left corner of the goal at the 27:34-minute mark.

The Knights continued to place offensive pressure on the Falcons, scoring two more times in the half off of back-to-back goals from freshmen Kate Luers (Middleton) at the 38:14 and 44:38-minute marks to give Wartburg the 4-0 lead going into the half.

The Knights out-shot the Falcons 12-9 in the first half, with Wartburg finding some quality shots by attempting eight shots on goal. Freshmen goalkeeper Emma Strong (Broomfield, Colo.) saved two goals on the Falcons' nine attempts.

Sophomore midfielder Molly Close (Polk City) added to the Knights lead, scoring a goal from the top of the box in the early stages of the second period at the 56:38 mark.

The Falcons would get on the scoreboard midway through the second period on a goal from forward Camryn Altnau assisted from Callie McCauley.

The Knights travel back home to make their home debut against UW-La Crosse on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. The UW-La Crosse Eagles are the reigning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, posting a season record of 20-2-3.
