WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg Knights will play host for the first time this season as the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles will travel for a match on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Wartburg College Soccer Field.
The Knights (3-1 overall) are coming off a triumphant 2-1 overtime victory over Gustavus Adolphus College, which saw freshmen forward
Joy Smith score the game-winning goal merely 52 seconds into the overtime period to lift the Knights.
The Knights are led in scoring from senior forward
Nicole Adair with three goals on the season on 13 shots. Freshmen goalkeeper
Emma Strong leads the Knights in total minutes played at goalie, cumulating nine saves and boasting a 2-1 record.
The Eagles (1-2-1) are coming into town after being dealt a 4-0 loss to the University of St. Thomas on Sunday. Eagles goalkeeper Lily Brock has compiled 328:55 minutes of total play in addition to 21 saves and a 1-1-1 record.
The Knights and Eagles have met 10 times throughout their respective histories, with the Eagles holding the series advantage of 5-4-1 in those contests. Wartburg's last victory over the Eagles came on Sept. 11, 2013, in a double-overtime game that the Knights pulled out 2-1.
