WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg women's soccer team fell to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead after Margaret Harings' quick shot sneaked past Wartburg's freshmen goalkeeper
Emma Strong. The Eagles would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
Only 1:42 into the second period, the Eagles would score again on a 25-yard chip shot goal from Hannah Beech, giving the Eagles their 2-0 lead and getting the well-traveled La Crosse fans to make some noise.
Nearly towards the end of the 61
st minute, the Eagles were called on a hand ball foul, which resulted in senior forward
Nicole Adair attempting and scoring on a penalty kick to trim the lead to 2-1.
However, the deficit would be too much for the Knights to overcome, as they couldn't get a clean shot at the goal the rest of the match. The Eagles walked away from Waverly improving to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Knights dropped to 3-2 on the year.
The Knights will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. as they play host to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
