Knights Sweep Norse

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team moved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in American Rivers Conference play in the 3-0 sweep over Luther (6-4, 0-1) Wednesday.

Freshman Jayme Willemssen (Waverly) led all hitters with 11 kills. Senior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. She needs just two assists to move into ninth all-time in career assists.

Sophomore Katie Foster (Charles City) and senior Lizzy Blough (Dike) rounded out those in double digit digs with 17 and 12, respectively. Sophomore Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) had a career-high three solo blocks.

In the first set, the Knights led 19-9 at one point. In the second set, the Orange and Black trailed 12-9, but then compiled a five-point lead to reclaim the lead for good at 14-12. Wartburg had to battle back again in the third set as it trailed 13-10. The score remained close as it was tied at three more times, including 17 all. A three-point run by the Knights gave them the lead at 20-17, which they never relinquished.

As a team, the Orange and Black owned the team advantages in every category, including holding their opponent to a .054 team hitting percentage.

The Orange and Black return to the road Saturday at UW-LaCrosse's Invite.
