WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team (2-1 overall, 1-0 American Rivers) defeated Buena Vista (1-2, 0-1) in shutout fashion, 63-0, Saturday in the American Rivers Conference opener.

This marked the first shutout over BV since 2015,  and 12th overall in the series. The 63 points were the most the Knights scored against Buena Vista in the series history.

Senior quarterback Matt Sacia (Eldridge) finished with 199 yards which moved him into fourth all-time with 6,604 to date. He surpassed Reed Hoskins' 6,433, set in 2002-05. Sacia was 13-23-1 with two touchdown passes. Sacia has now finished with triple-digit passing yards in 22-straight games and in 24 of his last 25, which dates back to the 2016 season.

Sophomore Bennett Goettsch (Marengo) led the team on the ground with a career-best 69 yards and three TDs. 

Junior Will Hasken (Miles) had a team-high 49 receiving yards on three catches.

Senior Brady Heusinkvelt (Denver) and freshman Antonio Santillan (Davenport) co-led the defense with seven total tackles. Senior Dillon Rademaker (Greene) had a team-best 2.5 TFLs.

The Orange and Black took the 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and never looked back.
